I was so excited to arrived in Sarasota on Saturday for the First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon and Relay. I had so many ups and downs lately, that I wasn't sure if I was going to make it here or not. But I did! The expo/packet pick up for this race was held at the Fit 2 Run in Sarasota off University Parkway.
The minute I arrived it was SUPER packed. Lots of people in one place, at one time. Luckily though things moved pretty smoothly for packet pickup. I was a little disappointed in the t-shirt process. The race boasted having gender specific shirts and I was excited about this because I love being able to get a women's shirt instead of a unisex or men's shirt. When I registered, I put down that I wanted a women's large. However when I got to t-shirt pick up, there were no larges left. I just don't understand how this happened. They offered a men's medium or I could have them take down my info and they would mail me a shirt. There is something about the race shirt I love. It seems so "official." I just didn't want to wait for a shirt to arrive randomly in the mail, so I opted for the men's shirt. I was disappointed, but it was nice of them to give some options. Check out the shirt...what do you think?
The race bag was a First Watch paper bag, with a jar of some unknown biscotti spread, some papers about local races, and a 20% off coupon to Fit 2 Run. I was super excited about this because I had been eyeing some new Brooks and I knew this was my chance to snag some at a good price. After I got all my race gear, I started the process of getting new shoes. I was amazed by Fit 2 Run and their video gait analysis. I was greeted by a super friendly employee who took care of me. I ran on their treadmill and she recorded me running. Then she analyzed my gait and we chatted about my shoe options. When we were done, she got me into some new shoes...say hello to my little friend.....my new women's Brooks Ghost 5 in pink! I love them!
I left packet pick up just beaming. I was so excited over the fact that I am here....I'm going to do this and get that amazing dolphin medal! And of course my new shoes helped put a little pep in my step too!
