Are you honking at me?

Today I was out for my run and planning on five miles. I was running my typical route and around mile 2.5 I heard a "beep, beep" from a Jeep Cherokee.
All I could think was "Are you honking at me?" I didn't recognize the car and was clueless until I saw the back of the car. The back windshield was filled with 13.1 and 26.2 stickers. And then it hit me. They were beeping at me because I'm running....because I'm one of them.

At that moment, I wanted to cry. I'm sure you're thinking "cry" really? But yes...cry! I still have a hard time calling myself a runner, but at that moment I had a small realization that I am a runner and I do belong to this amazing group of men and women around the world. This quote from John Bingham rings true today for me!
So thank you Mr. or Mrs. Jeep Cherokee...thank you for honking at me, thank you for putting some pep in my step, and thank you for simply taking a moment to notice.

Have you ever had a realization like mine on a run? What was it that made you realize you were a runner?

  3. Awe! I know how you feel. :) I like to honk and give thumbs up to runners I see, especially on the last hill before we hit the beach(it's a nasty one).

  4. I was running the other day, and when I got back to my car, I had a text from a friend that said "You GO girl! Looking good!" I hadn't even noticed her when she drove by, but that text made me feel wonderful!
