The runDisney Disneyland Half Marathon marked Day 2 of the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge! When Sunday morning came, I woke up feeling good and my legs felt pretty fresh. I was excited to tackle 13.1 miles running through Disneyland and the streets of Anaheim.
I arrived at the corrals around 4:30. I was excited to meet up with my blogger friend, Kristen once again. Hanging out with Kristen definitely made the waiting go by super fast. At 5:30, the fireworks started! There weren't any fireworks at the 10K, so I loved having them at the start of the half marathon.
We took off through the main road leading to the Disneyland resorts, and we quickly turned onto the road and then into the back of the parks. I loved getting to the parks so early in the race, but I knew that meant that after the parks, I wouldn't be back by there again until the very end.
We started off with a quick trip through Cars Land. Seeing it for the 2nd time still made me giddy! I'm amazed at how Disney has made the Cars movie come to life!
Then we entered Disneyland and ran on some of the same parts of the 10K course. Seeing the castle and all of the rides never gets old!
After the first four miles, we exited the park and the race continued on the streets of Anaheim. It was kind of a bummer because I knew we would be on these streets for a awhile.
But the time went by fast because the view was pretty amazing and there was some awesome cheering going on from cheerleaders, bands, and some old classic cars. The best part for me on this part of the course was one of the spectators had a tent and was passing out pretzels, frozen oranges, and Twizzlers. This was so unexpected, but so appreciated!
Before I knew it, we arrived at Angel Stadium. The crowds were AMAZING!! Entering the stadium gave me goosebumps.
Once we left the stadium, I knew we were in the home stretch. We had a little more than 3 miles to go and I felt great.
At mile 12, we arrived back at the parks. We went around the back side of California Adventure. This is where I saw Peggy Sue. She's the #1 fan of all runners at runDisney races! I first saw Peggy two years ago at the Princess Half. Her sign was what caught my attention and now I look for her at every race!
Approaching the finish of the runDisney Disneyland Half Marathon was amazing. The crowds and cheers make it so emotional for me. Right at the end, I was lucky enough to run into my friend LeeAnn. We crossed the finish line together!
This was a great race and a PR for me! I was a very happy girl with a lot of new bling...I even brought my 2013 runDisney Princess Half Marathon medal with me from home. That's the race that allowed me to earn my Coast to Coast medal!
I'm so glad I was able to make the trip to Disneyland. If you haven't made it out there yet, it was definitely worth it! This was definitely a race weekend to remember!
