The verdict is in.....

The verdict is in. I finally broke down and made an appointment with the orthopedic doctor to have my foot checked out. Here I thought maybe it was getting better....then last night I went for my first run in two weeks. I could only make it for 1.5 miles. The pain was too much!

Today I got my second x-ray. The x-ray was clear, but the dr says that's normal. Sometimes stress fractures never show up on an x-ray and when they do, it's after they've healed. He wanted to go ahead with a MRI, but I couldn't justify it. I don't like dealing with the red tape of insurance and the out of pocket cost for it right now would throw me for a loop. So I asked him, let's say the fracture shows up on the MRI, what would be different for treatment? His answer. NOTHING. So were treating it as a stress fracture.
What does that mean for me? It means no running for at least 4 weeks. Yep. There isn't a nice way to put it. It sucks. It pisses me off. And there's nothing I can do about it. I'm a control freak and for this to be out of my control is SO frustrating. But I think back to October when I missed my first marathon, it was sign and I do believe that everything happens for a reason.
So what I do about the runDisney Dopey Challenge? Who knows? I have a few ideas in mind. I'm hopeful maybe I can pull off some of the races. But really, I don't know. Guess only time will tell.....

Have you ever missed a race because of an injury? If you've had a stress fracture, how long was your recovery?

  3. OH, Ashley, I am so sorry about this! I wish I could say or do something to make it better, but it just sucks, plain and simple! I hope you can still somehow participate in Dopey, and get your medals. I am proud of you for your strength, and getting through each hurdle. Enjoy your WDW time too. Sending you a virtual hug.

  4. That sucks! In case it helps I had a friend that was injured in a bike ride last week and Disney let her defer her dopey to 2015 for a 70$ fee.... Remember 2015 is 15 years of goofy! Just trying to put a positive spin on it?!?

  13. Oh no! Such bummer news. I remember when I thought I had a stress fracture and I freaked out. It hurt so bad to run half a mile. Turns out it was a pulled tendon, but still it sucked. That ecard look alike is perfect! Rest up and feel better soon!
