Today I got my second x-ray. The x-ray was clear, but the dr says that's normal. Sometimes stress fractures never show up on an x-ray and when they do, it's after they've healed. He wanted to go ahead with a MRI, but I couldn't justify it. I don't like dealing with the red tape of insurance and the out of pocket cost for it right now would throw me for a loop. So I asked him, let's say the fracture shows up on the MRI, what would be different for treatment? His answer. NOTHING. So were treating it as a stress fracture.
What does that mean for me? It means no running for at least 4 weeks. Yep. There isn't a nice way to put it. It sucks. It pisses me off. And there's nothing I can do about it. I'm a control freak and for this to be out of my control is SO frustrating. But I think back to October when I missed my first marathon, it was sign and I do believe that everything happens for a reason.
So what I do about the runDisney Dopey Challenge? Who knows? I have a few ideas in mind. I'm hopeful maybe I can pull off some of the races. But really, I don't know. Guess only time will tell.....
Have you ever missed a race because of an injury? If you've had a stress fracture, how long was your recovery?
