#chiMarathon Training: Week 1

Week one of training for the Chicago Marathon was a success! I have been waiting to officially kick off training and it feels great to be back at it with a goal in mind. For training, I'm following Hal Higdon's Novice 2 18-Week Training Program. I feel like it's the right fit!

This time around for my second marathon, I really want to stay on top of cross training. Let's be honest....I barely focused on cross training for my first marathon. The goal was to go the distance and cover the miles. Now that I have gone the distance, I need some cross training in my life. I decided to sign up for a boot camp that I did a few years ago.

Here's how week one of training went:

Monday: Boot Camp

Tuesday: 3 Miles
Wednesday: 5 Miles, Boot Camp
Thursday: 3 Miles
Friday: 8 Miles
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: Rest
Weekly Mileage: 19 Miles

Week one done. Seventeen more to go. Hopefully you'll stick around and keep up with my training! You can follow along with my training on Daily Mile. Are you training for anything? I'd love to keep up with your training too!

  1. Looks like a great 1st week of training! I'm training for a half marathon (my 1st) with the same "covering the distance" goal. I know I should work in some cross training, but I just love getting out and running! :)

    1. I totally agree about thinking I'm a stronger runner. Every time I'm at boot camp, I think "I know this is going to make me better AND faster!" LOL

  3. Go girl! I'm training for Tower or Terror but I think I'm about to take another 3 weeks off. My leg injury is back to bugging me (not sure what 3 weeks are going to do when 3 months didn't help) and then I have 2 weeks of vacation...buuuut I like running in new places so we'll see!
