#chiMarathon Training: Weeks 5 and 6

With summer marathon training comes vacations and running in new places. For the last 10 days, we have been vacationing at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo. When planning out my training months ago, I kept in mind the runs I would need to do. Exploring new places when running is fun, but being in vacay mode can also mean doing a whole lot of nothing. Well, I managed both and was consistent with training during vacation. I even did a few runs with the hubs and my mom. It was perfect!

Here's how weeks 5 and 6 of training for the Chicago Marathon went!

Week 5:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 3 Miles
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 12 Miles
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 3 Miles
Sunday: 6 miles
Weekly Milage: 24 Miles

Week 6:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 3 Miles
Wednesday: 6 Miles
Thursday: 3 Miles
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: 9 Miles
Weekly Mileage: 21 Miles

I wasn't sure if I would be getting the 9 mile run in this past week because of a stomach bug. After driving home from the Keys and then the craziness of unpacking, I gave myself permission to skip that run. But then I was disappointed. I haven't missed a run yet and didn't want to start now...so I didn't! I ended getting on the treadmill last night and busted out 9 miles. It's the farthest I've ever gone on a treadmill and I owe it all to watching BravoTV's Real Housewives of NJ and OC. Long runs on the treadmill are all about mental toughness. And no, I didn't just burn 329 calories...the treadmill resets after 999 calories. What a run!
It's amazing that six weeks of training have gone by. The time is just flying. It excites me because I can't wait to run Chicago, but it also scares me because my mileage is starting to get real now.

Be sure to follow along on Twitter or Instagram to keep up with my #chiMarathon training. Because you know what they say, "if you don't tweet it or post a pic on IG, then the run never happened."

  1. AKKKK!!! This is so exciting! You're doing great and I can't wait to follow along. Great job getting that 9 miles done - my longest treadmill run to date was a 10 miler and it was TOUGH. Watched The Devil Wears Prada and that helped (great soundtrack!).

    1. Thanks so much! What a great movie to watch on the treadmill. If I ever go longer, I may need to switch to a movie. LOL

  2. Great job getting in a nine mile treadmill/dreadmill run. It is always easier with junk TV and I am sure that helped pass the time! I may be running a few times this week on the treadmill since our forecast is for lots of rain over the next 3-4 days.

    1. Thanks! As much as I dread the treadmill, I'm fortunate to have it for late runs and runs when the weather is rainy. Hopefully you won't get too much rain this week!

  3. That's the only way I do any runs on the treadmill - thank you Hulu Plus for allowing me to watch my TV shows while I get my work out on!!!

  4. Vacations have totally messed up my running plans for the summer, but that's alright. I'll get better this fall! Great job on sticking with it!!
