Long ago in what seems like eternity, I signed up for the runDisney Goofy Challenge. If you're thinking, what kind of challenge is this, well let me fill you in. It's a half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday. Yep, you read that correctly. 39.3 glorious runDisney miles!
Registration opened back in April and I decided then to go Goofy! I figured it wouldn't be a big deal since I would be coming off of running the Chicago marathon in October, so I would have a good base to pick up from.Well who knew back in April when I registered that I wouldn't be running Chicago after all?? This is what happens when you sign up for a race months in advance.
So I've been toying with what to do about this race. Part of me didn't even want to commit to a full marathon. As in just didn't want to. But then part of me was annoyed that the amount of money I paid for the challenge would make "just" doing the half a very expensive half marathon. You know what I'm saying?!?
A few weeks ago, a running pal of mine and I were both chatting about how we didn't want to commit to Goofy. And then we were like, "let's just do it together!" So there you have it!
For the last few weeks, I've been ramping up my mileage. Things have been going great and I feel really good. Yesterday I ran 16 miles and I swear I wasn't even sore. As in never felt better, even today I feel the same way. I've got one more big run left next week and then it's taper time. I'm not so much worried about the back to back runs. Don't want to get injured before race day and I only have so much time on my hands. Besides I'll be running the half super slow and making it my character pic race, so I think I'll be okay with it. Key word here is "think." Ha, ha!
This week I met with my neurologist as a follow up from my fall appointment since I've started my new medication. We had both agreed that the Chicago marathon wasn't a good idea at the time, so I wanted his opinion on Goofy. He was so pleased with my weight loss and my progress on the new meds. So since all is well, he gave me the green light to go Goofy!
Here we are now 23 days until the runDisney Walt Disney World Marathon race weekend! It is rapidly approaching! I'm both excited and scared at the same time. I mean, who wouldn't be? My goals for race weekend are to finish and have fun! And of course earn some awesome bling!
Will you be running any of the runDisney races during marathon weekend? If so, let me know which ones. I hope to see you there!
